We are currently monitoring the evolving conditions in regard to COVID-19 and implementing new health and safety practices for the benefit of players, families and coaches. We are planning to run all scheduled future seasons of Soccer Shots, but will be making adjustments for the availability and restrictions of our facility partners, as well as the recommendations and orders from local governments, Oregon Health Authority and Washington State Department of Health. We are committed to communicating all changes if and when they occur. Due to the need to respond to a global health emergency, we are working hard to create solutions that consider children and families in our programs, as well as our staff and coaches, and are planning for being back on the field in the safest way possible.

Health & Safety
A NOTE ON HEALTH & SAFETY ON SOCCER ISLAND
Your child’s health and safety is our #1 priority. That’s why we’ve developed a series of protocols that allow for a safe return to play. We’ve been carefully working to meet every requirement of the Oregon Health Authority’s guidance for our programs, as well as keeping up to date with State and local mandates. We’ve modified many aspects of our operations and curriculum and will be asking you to make some modifications too.
As we return to the field, we’ll be doing it together in these key ways:
Soccer Shots is required to follow the current health mandates and guidance in both Oregon State and Washington State, and effective June 30th both states will lift mask mandates. Masks are still strongly encouraged but not required for all participants in Soccer Shots programs. Coaches who are fully vaccinated will have the option of not wearing masks and will instead wear “I’m vaccinated” badges for transparency. [updated July 9, 2021]
SMALL GROUPS THAT DON’T MIX
The #1 thing we are doing to reduce risk is maintaining small groups of 12 or less. This means, all season long, your child will be playing with a maximum of 11 other players and not more than 2 coaches. Locations with multiple groups will not mix players. By maintaining what the state and CDC call a “stable cohort” everyone’s risk drops dramatically.
CLEANING, SANITIZING & DISINFECTING
We’ll be taking more steps than ever to ensure players, coaches and equipment are safe for play. This means we’ll be washing and/or sanitizing equipment before, during and after each session. We’ll be washing hands, before, during and after. We’ll also be asking families that enroll to commit to coming “clean” and washing again after playing. Together, we can do this.
From increasing social distance, to removing all touch and high fives, our curriculum has been modified at a national level by experts we don’t have direct access to here and then vetted and adjusted to ensure it meets all state and local guidelines.
TRUST & COMMUNICATION – FEVER OR COUGH? STAY HOME
It may or may not be COVID, but if a caregiver, a player or a coach develops a symptom that the Oregon Health Authority has flagged, we’re not allowed to have you on the premises. This means we’re all trusting each other.
COACH TRAINING, INFO & RULES
As role models who teach children to follow rules, we’ll be following the rules of the Oregon Health Authority, and our national franchise system. To do that we’ve attended dozens of webinars and consulted with medical, sport, and governmental experts to put in place protocols that will be well above board and safe.
Together we can reduce the risk that in our programs and in our community while also starting to get so many of the emotional, social, psychological and physical benefits of Soccer Shots.
OREGON HEALTH AUTHORITY UPDATES
Effective July 24, 2020 the OHA requires adults and children ages 5 and up to wear face-coverings and “does not recommend wearing a plastic face shield alone.” Soccer Shots is required to follow the mandate and will require adults and children ages 5-and-up to wear masks. Several elements of Soccer Shots programs allow participants to maintain at least 6-feet of space, like warm-ups, individual skills development, and some of our skills games. Our Coaching Team has reviewed all of our session activities to make sure Coaches are clearly communicating when masks are required or can be removed (e.g. distanced water breaks).
WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH UPDATES
Effective June 26, 2020 the Washington State Secretary of Health, John Wiesman, issued a health order mandating the use of cloth face coverings. Clark County Public Health website explains, “The mandate applies to adults and children ages 5 years and older. Face coverings are recommended, but not required, for children 2 to 5 years old while in public places. Children younger than 2 should not wear face coverings.” Soccer Shots is required to follow the mandate and will require adults and children ages 5-and-up to wear masks.
