Director of Coaching
My name is John Metzler, and I am very excited to join the Soccer Shots Pittsburgh team. I grew up in the Pittsburgh area and developed my love of soccer after participating in youth soccer in this area at various levels. I’ve remained an enthusiastic fan and supporter of the sport throughout my life. After living in the New York metropolitan area (including living in Kearny, NJ; known as “Soccer Town USA”), I was excited to take advantage of an opportunity to return to Pittsburgh with my wife Joanna and my son William. Eager to get my son involved in my favorite sport, signed William up for Soccer Shots was immediately impressed with the quality, professionalism, and care shown by the coaches. Soccer Shots reaches kids at an age that has the greatest potential to instill a life-long appreciation of the sport and its ability to encourage both teamwork and individual improvement. It is my goal, as Director of Coaching, to continue to maintain high standards and make Soccer Shots a highlight of every enrolled child’s week.

Hello! My name is Chris Schutte and I have lived my entire life here in Pittsburgh. I am blessed to be the father of 3 young, very active sons and the foster parent to an outstanding young man who recently graduated from the culinary program at IUP. I am thrilled to finally return to Soccer Island with my friends while we all get back to a little bit of normalcy! I love coaching here at Soccer Shots because it combines my passion for sports and my love of working with children. Being involved with sports since I was a child has taught me valuable lessons about commitment, dedication, effort and teamwork that I still apply to my life on a daily basis, and I look forward to helping your children learn these same values while we have lots of fun!
My name is Coach Steve and I am excited to get to know everyone. I am an IT professional who has taken an interest in soccer through my kids. I have three girls and one boy who have all been through or are currently in Soccer Shots programs. Two of the girls are now playing on school teams as well. Four kids have taught me a lot but I learn more everyday. Now it will be my pleasure to help pass on some of that soccer knowledge to you.
Coach Matt grew up playing soccer from a young age, played in college, and still plays today. Since graduating from Thiel College, he has worked in finance and bought, operated, and later sold a business supply company. His children have graduated from Soccer Shots programs and he is excited to help teach your children the same great lessons. His kids couldn’t wait to get to school on Soccer Shots days!
Hello! My name is Coach Robyn and I am a pediatric Physical Therapist. I love working with children of all ages and introducing them to new sports, health, fitness, and all that you can learn from playing sports. I am really excited to be a part of the Soccer Shots team!
Hello, I’m Coach Matt! I am a 2012 graduate from Highlands High School and a 2016 graduate from Duquesne University. I have been playing soccer since micro level when I was four years old and I have grown to absolutely love the game. Playing sports in general, but mainly soccer, has helped teach me countless lessons in life including how be a good sport, how to interact with others, how to be a good teammate, how to be a leader, how to never give up, how to learn from defeats and so much more. As a coach I not only look forward to teaching kids how to play the game, but more importantly how to apply the lessons sports teach into everyday life.
Hello! My name is Coach Sam and I appreciate you taking the time to get to know me. I have been playing soccer ever since I can remember and has allowed me to develop into the person I am today. Likewise, I have been fortunate to play at the highest levels including National League, State Cup, and most recently at Washington and Jefferson College. This will be my first season with Soccer Shots and can’t explain the excitement I have with working with your child. Not only will we be introducing your child to the vital skills needed for the game, but more importantly, the life lessons that the beautiful game offers!
My name is Coach Tom Naughton and I have been a coach with Soccer Shots since September 2018. I played soccer in high school and played for a short period in college. I work as a high school social studies teacher during day, and coach for Soccer Shots in the afternoons. I love to cook, read, play video games, and play an assortment of sports on the weekends. Soccer Shots is an absolute blast, and I like to think I have just as much fun as the players!!
I am a 2018 Bethany College graduate, after graduating I found my way to the Pittsburgh Area where I began to work with Foster Kids and I have loved every second of it since starting 3 years ago. I’ve always had a passion for Soccer and got the opportunity to play 2 years in College and 4 years in High School. Soccer has forever had a special place in my heart and I am so excited to get back into by coaching youth!
Hi, I am Coach Jason. Growing up, I played football, baseball, and track. My daughter started playing soccer at age 3 and I have been in love with the game since. I am a volunteer coach, certified referee, and board member at my local club. I enjoy teaching the skills needed for the game, but more importantly, the life lessons and skills that come along with playing soccer. In my free time, I enjoy distance running and volunteering with groups in my community.
